On an icy, cold, and windy morning in Bastrop, Texas several kayak fishing fanatics gathered around the area waters and fished until their fingers couldn’t take it any longer. To thaw out they met at the Bastrop Brewhouse, a local restaurant and bar on the riverfront of the Colorado River. Their local food, in-house brewed beer, and enough TV’s to cover the big football games of the day made for lots of fun at the KATS social.
Marcus Villanueva won first prize ($200 ACK gift certificate) with his 18.25 inch bass, and he managed to catch a limit in the frigid waters! Eric Porter, new to the series, took home second ($100 ACK gift certificate) with a 17.25 inch bass! Mike Garcia, also known as “Chico”, took third ($50 ACK gift card) with a 12.75 inch bass, although he lost a big one in the morning. Tim Kapp caught the biggest fish of all, a 21.5 inch catfish, on a fly rod!
In addition to the raffle, the 2014 Rules were discussed, and the Lakes and Dates were released to the crowd! Most importantly everyone who came (and some who couldn’t) donated one or more kids fishing rod/reel combos for Brown Santa! We really look forward to handing these over to Brown Santa and knowing that we enriched the lives of local Central Texas kids and hopefully getting them out on the water (or the banks at least)!
