Austin, Texas (February 20, 2017) – The Kayak Angler’s Tournament Series (KATS) organization is pleased to announce a donation total of $9,600 as a result of the 2016 series. The funds were raised through charity raffle sales to help support five Texas based non-profits, including the Kids Outdoor Zone, Austin Chapter of Heroes on the Water, C.A.S.T for Kids, Explore Austin and the Texas Mamma Jamma Ride.
The KATS organization, along with the support of its participants, sponsors and host, Austin Canoe and Kayak (ACK), focuses on giving back to the community. KATS donates funds raised by tournament participants and spectators through charity raffle sales and event registrations annually. Each year, the charities are selected by the KATS Governing Board, an organization designed to represent the kayak angling community.
One such charity is the Kids Outdoor Zone, who hosts their annual Dell Children’s Hospital Fishing event every summer. “I knew I wanted to do something for kids and the outdoors is my personal passion. God placed the idea on my heart and I went to work, without doubt that we could bring fishing to these kids,” Kids Outdoor Zone Co-Founder Chris Roberts said.
“There is not a better feeling than seeing these kids show up in their hospital gowns and leave with huge smiles and their very own fishing gear. Putting on this event has been a life changing experience.”Kids Outdoor Zone Co-Founder Chris Roberts
In addition to the Kids Outdoor Zone, KATS also made a contribution to the Texas Mamma Jamma Ride. The non-profit organization is dedicated to helping those facing breast cancer as well as their families. Held in historic Martindale, the ride benefits nine local organizations that help central Texans facing breast cancer.
“On behalf of the breast cancer fighters and survivors in Central Texas, Texas Mamma Jamma Ride is thrilled to receive this generous donation from KATS,” Texas Mamma Jamma Board President Jenny Douglas said. “These funds will help to ensure that those battling breast cancer in our community get the support and care they need to win the fight.”
All proceeds raised in the 2016 season were used to support regionally based charities. Raffle items are generously donated by the tournament series sponsors. More information about the beneficiaries can be found below.
