KATS 2014 Pre-Season River Run
Note: There have been some changes to this event due to weather conditions for this upcoming weekend.
Anyone! This event is open to the public and only requires that you follow the rules, bring the appropriate entry fee and have fun!
RSVP at bottom of page please.
Due to a wet, windy, cold front blowing in this weekend we have made some changes to this event. The KATS social will take place as scheduled at the Bastrop Brewhouse at 4 PM, we encourage you to still bring a donation rod/reel kids combo. If weather permits and you would still like to fish a tournament or paddle we welcome you to do so safely. DO NOT put yourself in a dangerous situation on the river if rain causes river flow to be unsafe. See fishing info below.
This is a roadrunner tournament. That means you are responsible for launching/shuttling/landing yourself. It is advised you partner up with folks to make this easier. There is also a courtesy shuttle offer (see below). You may fish the Colorado River anywhere along the Wilbarger Trail and the El Camino Real trail. Due to the weather I will also allow nearby Lake Bastrop as optional fishing waters. You can also just come for the ceremony and fun (please consider the donation).
Recommended River Section: El Camino Real from Fisherman’s Park to Tahitian Village 6 miles, 2-4 hour leisurely paddle
Free Shuttle courtesy of Bastrop River Company. To take advantage of shuttle you must drop your boat off (8 am) at Fisherman’s Park and then drive your vehicle to the takeout at the Colorado Wildlife Refuge (be here by 8:30), shuttle will take everyone back to Fisherman’s for a 9 am launch. The stretch takes about 3 hours just paddling, so that will give you about 6 hours total to include fishing time on the way. You are welcome to set up your own shuttle and launch at any time after 5am. Make sure to be back at Brewhouse by 4 pm. Lee Harle (owner of Bastrop River Company) can be reached at 512-921-8423 (take number with you).
Directions to the takeout: Take Tahitian Drive (southbound) from 71 until it dead ends into T at Riverside Drive. Take a right, go about a mile or so until road becomes dirt road and on your left you will see the Colorado River Refuge.
