Kayak Anglers Tournament Series (KATS) Expands to Midwest Region

TEXAS – Kayak Anglers Tournament Series  (KATS) Expands to Midwest Region

Texas based KATS announces expansion to Midwest region in response to ACK.com and Summit Sports merger.

In its 10th year anniversary series, Texas’ largest freshwater kayak fishing tournament made an important step towards becoming a National organization by expanding to the Midwest states, based out of Michigan.

With the recent merger of specialty outdoor gear retailers, Summit Sports and Austin Canoe and Kayak, it was an obvious step in the right direction to expand the Texas based series to the Michigan area. While there are many miles between the two, many anglers are excited to share this common organization and the future opportunities surrounding competition between the two or on a national circuit.

“Growing KATS out of Texas has always been a goal for us and with this new merger the opportunity presented itself for a successful foothold outside of our usual market.” said Program Director, Kristian Kolflat.

While the overall theme of KATS Texas will be used in the midwest, some adjustments will be made to accommodate the different region and anglers. “We can catch 20 inch smallies all day on Lake St Clair” says Jeff Sherwood, head of KATS Midwest, “but it’s not like in Texas where the 5-8 lbs largemouth are not uncommon”. The KATS Midwest rules will be released soon, so for now, mark your calendars!

With much to be determined, the Midwest series will run mostly independent of the Texas series for its first year, with 3 KATS Midwest events taking place this summer and fall. Look for more information over the next few weeks on www.fishkats.com/midwest.

ACK, Summit Sports, and KATS thank all of our sponsors and supporters in helping make KATS possible and we look forward to this new partnership and endeavour.

I highly recommend this series to all yak anglers. Whether this is your first tournament, or you are a seasoned pro, this series is very welcoming and ran with an extreme amount of honesty, integrity and straight up fun! My first large tournament in a kayak was the KATS series and I was not intimidated or nervous at all once I met all of the fellow anglers and directors. You are treated with respect and equality from everyone from the top anglers to the sponsors. Whether you catch a fish or not, there is a great chance you will make new friends, meet new yak buddies and walk away with some really cool prizes from amazing sponsors! I cought one fish and flipped my kayak in the first tournament and still won a very expensive prize from a large sponsor and met a lot of great people that Istill fish with and learn from today! Come out and try the series and you will see exactly what I am talking about for yourself. This is the “Go to” series for any level angler!

    1. Thanks for your support and feedback!
