Leading up to the Lake Wood event, we all were watching the weather very closely mostly because of the record rainfall we have received in Central Texas over the course of the past couple of weeks. Reports from anglers pre fishing just days before was that the Lake was up between 18 inches and 2 feet higher than normal causing the clarity of the water to change drastically making it very stained with only a sliver of visibility. On top of that the weather continually projected a high chance of scattered thunderstorms throughout the day on Saturday. With the combination of these factors I knew conditions would be tough, but I honestly could not have anticipated how tough it was actually going to be. The day of however we lucked out and most of the thunderstorms cells went around the lake except for a brief downpour near the middle of the afternoon! Due to the tough fishing, the scoring was done relatively quickly and by 3:30pm the winners were announced.
In the pro division, Greg Blanchard took first place with a 2 fish total of 31.5″ followed by Mr. Ryan Herzog in second with a 2 fish total of 30″. In third place was Joseph Sanderson with 28.25″ followed by Brandon Campbell with 28″. In fifth place we have Guillermo Gonzales with a 20.75″ fish and was also big enough to take home the Big Bass Award! In social Mike Iselt took first place with 24″ followed by the lovely Melissa Baethge with 22″. Placing in third we have Matthew Velasquez with 13.25″. A lucky John Brown went home with the charity raffle Thule Xsporter Pro 500XT Pickup Truck Rack while Brian Jones left with the Mystery Tackle Bag. Congratulations to all those who placed and walked out with some awesome gear from our sponsors.
Thanks as always to our awesome sponsors and we really appreciate everyone who came out! Even with the tough fishing conditions we had a great time and look forward to seeing y’all at Gibbons Creek!
